August Empties 2017

Another month another empties post. You guys know the drill.

This past month I seem to be decluttering much more than I finished.

I'll begin with these Alpha H travel sized products.

Triple Action Cleanser- A gel cleanser that works to balance skin without drying it out.
Repurchase? A great cleanser, but I now prefer cream cleansers. This one would have been fantastic when I was in my teens/early twenties.

Micro Cleanse Super Scrub- A scrub formulated to exfoliate skin both chemically and physically. This is such a gentle exfoliator, the jojoba beads have no sharp edges, so they just glide over the skin as you massage over the skin.
Repurchase? I prefer a more abrasive scrub to get rid of all those dead skin cells.

Balancing and Pore Refining Mask- A clay mask that deep cleanses pores, whilst having properties that also soothe skin.
Repurchase? A decent mask, but with my current stockpile of facial masks, I really am not in the market for another.

Balancing Moisturiser- A light-weight moisturiser that gently exfoliates the skin.
Repurchase? I would consider this moisturiser in future (too many that need using up at the moment!). Being so light, it would make for a perfect summer cream.

Re BFGF Serum- An anti-aging serum I bought from Ozsale to target fine lines and skin damage caused by the sun, aging and stress.
Repurchase? I actually am now using my back-up, but I'm not sure I would try and seek this serum out. It's nice and hydrating, but I'm not sure it's doing a lot for my skin, especially considering the huge claims.

Swisse Hibiscus Anti-Aging Night Cream- A rich night cream that targets aging skin.
Repurchase? I have a back-up and would definitely buy this cream again in the future. I enjoy a rich moisturiser at night. This delivers without being too heavy. My skin still feels hydrated the next morning. I love it!

Skinn Crease Release Eye Serum- As the name suggests, this cream is supposed to smooth out crows feet.
Repurchase? I am not keen on the silicone like feel of this eye serum. Once it is absorbed it just doesn't feel hydrating enough around my delicate eye area.

Skinn Reorganize Night Eye Balm- This is a very thick, rich eye balm. I apply at night and it holds in the moisture, not fully absorbing before I go to sleep.
Repurchase? I love this eye balm! I already have another and will most likely be purchasing again. The jar is quite small, but it lasts for a long time, because only a very small amount is needed.

Sadly I am decluttering my House Of Beauty lip hybrids. They are like a gloss, but are extremely pigmented. They have a 6 month shelf life and I've had them for at least 3 years, eek. Time to go, what a waste! It makes me realise just how smarter I have to be with my makeup shopping. The Pur Vixen mascara also has to go, it is beginning to dry out and is getting clumpy.

Moreish Euphoria Cream Cleanser

I have had the Moreish Euphoria Cream Cleanser for some time now, just sitting there waiting to be used. Well I finally finished my stash of cleansers to get to this one, something I have been looking forward to trying.

Taken from Moreish- "To gently smooth, cleanse and soften all skin types, including sensitive skin. A rich creamy cleanser that removes makeup and impurities, leaving the skin soft and balanced."

The cleanser comes in a large 200 ml bottle with an easy to use pump-top dispenser. The cleanser is a light creamy consistency.

It has a lovely sweet scent that to my nose smells like a fruity honey mix. So nice!

This product is full of gorgeous ingredients such as argan, aloe vera, almond oil and manuka honey just to name a few.

The cream cleanser is so lovely to use. It is gentle, yet effective at cleansing the skin. Not only does it clean  well, being a cream means that it won't strip the skin.

It really does leave my face feeling soft and smooth. Something that I appreciate now that I'm older and my skin, although is combination, is becoming drier.

I am so glad I bought 2 bottles of the Moreish Euphoria Cream Cleanser, it is a dream to use and a total win for me!

What is your favourite type of cleanser?

Simply Nails #5

I really do like to create a lot of purple nail looks and today I have yet another one to show you. What can I say? I love purple!

I started with Australis Nail Colour in #bethatgirl for my base colour. I then used a fine brush to paint small stripes of the frosted blue polish You Blew Me Away from FOA. That's it, so easy!

30 Beauty Questions Tag

It's been a long time since I completed any kind of blogger Tag. After a quick search on google I come across the 30 Beauty Questions Tag.

1. Do you remember your first makeup item?
I'm pretty sure it was some Mary Kay makeup I bought at a friend's makeup party. Eye shadow and foundation.

2. Describe your perfect mascara. Have you found one that fits your specifications? I really like tubing mascaras. My favourite would be the Poni Cosmetics White Knight mascara. No smudging and provides both length and volume.

3.What kind of coverage to you prefer from foundation? I like a full coverage velvety finish. However, since hitting my 40s, I'm starting to find that it can settle into fine lines and and has the potential of looking cakey. I'm thinking that BB cream now looks best on my skin.

4. Favourite high end brand? Probably Urban Decay. Though I've only ever tried their eye shadow palettes.

5. What cosmetic brands have you always wanted to try but still haven't? Oh, there's so many that I want to try! Tarte, Juvia's Place, Dose of Colors, Ofra, Jouer, It Cosmetics, to name a few.

6. Favourite drugstore brand? I would have to say Maybelline. The products I have tried are good and I am always looking forward to seeing what they are going to release next.

7. Do you wear fake lashes? I love the look of false lashes. After a few attempts, I still can't get the hang of applying them, sadly.

8. Is there any kind of makeup you can't leave the house without? Not really, I leave the house without makeup quite often.

9. What is your most cherished beauty product? I love makeup, but I don't really get emotionally connected to anything. I could easily give it all away and start again, if I had the money. Oh, the fun I would have rebuilding my collection!

10. How often do you shop for makeup? Do you like to pick up an item here and there or get lots of goodies at once? I try not to buy too often, but when I do, I like to haul quite a few items at once.

11. Do you have a beauty budget? Or do you spend freely? I don't have a set budget for makeup. In saying that, I do have to watch what I spend.

12. Do you utilize coupons, rewards cards and sales when you shop for makeup? I generally only buy makeup during a sale.

13. What type of products do you buy the most of? Definitely eye shadows, specifically palettes.

14. Is there a brand that you absolutely can't stand? Every brand I have tried has good and not-so-good products, I can't recall ever disliking a brand as a whole.

15. Do you have a favourite place to shop for makeup? In store, I like to shop for makeup at Priceline. I mostly shop online, though.

16. Do you like trying new skincare products or do you keep a certain routine? I would love a simple skincare routine, but I enjoy trying new products too much.

17. Favourite bath and body brand? I don't get excited by bath and body products, to be honest. I generally just buy whatever is on sale.

18. If you could only buy from one brand, which brand would you choose? Oh, I really can't answer that. Next question!

19. What brand do you think has the best packaging? I love Benefit's adorable packaging. I think Kat Von D rocks her packaging.

20. Which celebrity always has great makeup? I really am not one to follow makeup of celebrities. I assume that in most cases, they have not applied their own makeup anyway.

21. Do you belong to any online makeup communities? Yes, Beauty Heaven. An awesome resource of all things beauty related, including reviews. But, what I love most is the forum, where like-minded members can interact with each other. I have "met" some amazing women on this website.

22. Favourite beauty gurus? I love Hailey and Kat from Beauty News, I also follow their individual channels.

23. Do you like multi functional products like lip and cheek stains? I do find that multi functional products can make life easier.

24. Are you clumsy in putting on makeup? After all these years I still struggle with winged eye liner and getting both eyes even.

25. Do you use makeup base/primer for the eyes? If I'm not using an actual eye primer, I'm using a cream shadow as a base like Maybelline Color Tattoos for example. I do sometimes wear a makeup primer, but the Sunsense Sunscreen I am using currently negates the need for one.

26. How many hair products do you use on a typical day? I either use a hair oil or hair mist daily, but I don't use styling products.

27. What do you apply first, concealer or foundation? I apply a colour corrector, foundation then concealer.

28. Do you ever consider taking makeup classes? In the past I was interested in makeup classes, but the desire is gone now. They would come in handy, but I just enjoy playing with makeup, I'm no longer worried about perfecting the art.

29. Lip Gloss or Lipstick? I don't hate lip gloss, but I much prefer a lipstick.

30. What do you love about makeup? I love the routine of applying makeup, I find it a calming process. I also love being creative, trying different techniques and colour combinations. A confidence boost resulting from wearing makeup doesn't hurt.

I am not going to single anyone out, so I tag everyone! If you do the 30 Beauty Questions Tag please leave me a link to your post, I'd love to check out your answers.

Alpha H Travel Sized Pack

I recently had a very nice surprise in the mail. TVSN sent me some goodies, including a travel sized skincare set from Alpha H. There are 4 products that came in a cute little mesh bag.

Instead of reviewing all of the products in separate blog posts, I thought I would quickly run through each product in the one post.

I'll start with the Triple Action Cleaner. This is a gel cleanser formulated with cucumber, aloe vera and thyme. A mix of antibacterial, yet hydrating ingredients to balance oily skin. I don't really suffer oily skin, but I found this cleanser was gentle enough on my combination skin. Not stripping my drier areas, whilst removing excess oil from my t-zone. I have been trying to avoid gel cleansers, but this 1 is nice to use in the mornings.

The Micro Cleanse Super Scrub contains not only 12% Glycolic Acid, but additional Jojoba beads to add to that exfoliation experience. Both chemical and physical exfoliants working to rid your skin of unwanted debris and skin cells, providing smooth, healthier looking skin. The Jojoba beads are so gentle when massaged across the skin. I like to leave the scrub on the face for a few minutes to let the Glycolic Acid to do its thing.

Balancing and Pore Refining Mask contains lavander for its antibacterial properties, white clay to unclog pores, zinc oxide for healing and Vitamin A, an ingredient that I love. The mask is lavender heavy in scent, which I like for its calming properties. It is quite thick, but easy to apply. I do find that the mask does set and is drying, like move and it will crack drying. Once removed, my skin is clean and feels so soft. My skin looks radiant after use.

Not only does the Balancing Moisturiser and Gentle Exfoliant contain goodies such as Hyaluronic Acid, green tea, aloe vera and Vitamin E, but also has 10% Glycolic Acid. This moisturiser is hydrating and antiaging,  exfoliating the skin, yet gentle enough to use everyday. I have been enjoying this light moisturiser, it has a menthol scent and an invigorating cooling sensation. My skin feels sufficiently hydrated.

BH Cosmetics Foil Eyes 2

Back in February I showed you the original Foil Eyes palette. I really love the palette and when the Foil Eyes 2 palette was released I had to have it! Of course, now there's a Tropicana version which I'm sure I'll end up buying also.

Taken from BH Cosmetics- "This must-have second edition features more vivid jewel tones, richer neutrals and more icy options- all with the same buttery feel and molten metal finish."

This palette gives me another collection of 28 gorgeous metallic shades. I love vibrant pops of colour for lids, especially foiled and this palette certainly provides that. I'll go right ahead and show you some swatches.

I must say that the 4th row is not my favourite, not because of poor quality, but I'm not a fan of silvers and greys. The rest, however. I love!

Look 4

As you can imagine, so many more looks could be created with this palette.

Wishlist 2017 #1

I can't believe this will be my first wishlist post for 2017. Oh well, better late than never, right? No surprise, I am lusting after a few eye shadow palettes.

Since the sneak peeks of the Morphe Jaclyn Hill Palette were being released I knew I had to have it. Then when it was available for sale, I promptly went to the Morphe website to buy it and quickly changed my mind when postage was going to be $62 US. No way was I paying that. Fingers crossed Beauty Bay will end up selling this palette.

The ColourPop Yes Please and Fem Rosa eye shadow palettes I've been wanting for so long now, but every time I go to buy them, 1 or both of them is sold out. I don't want to have to make 2 separate purchases for them, but it's getting frustrating.

The Ordinary has such a huge following, and it's no wonder with the products not only having fantastic ingredients, but at a fraction of the price of competitor's products. Their foundation is one of the products that I would like to try. Will have to wait until I finish some of my other foundations first.

Dose of Colors is a brand that until recently just had not been on my radar. However, with the release of popular YouTubers' Desi Perkins and Katy of Lustrelux collection of products, I am definitely interested! The collection was available for purchase on the 14th of this month and everything was sold out so quickly. Probably a good thing, because I wanted everything. Not because of the faces behind the collection, whose accounts I do happen to follow, but the lipsticks, gloss, highlighters and especially the eye shadow palette all look so gorgeous! I'm not one to buy something just because of the endorsement celebrity or creator. The collection will be restocked next month. Hmmm, it would make a great Christmas present for myself!

What are you currently lusting after?

Simple Hydrating Cleansing Oil

I bought this Simple Hydrating Cleansing oil, actually 3 of them during a sale that Chemist Warehouse was having some time ago. Now I had been content using a mix of coconut and olive oil as a makeup remover, but I'd read such good things about this cleansing oil and I really wanted to try it for myself. Of course a 50% off sale at Chemist Warehouse at an already affordable price had me quick to order.

Taken from Simple Skincare- "...our rinse off cleansing oil is made with 100%  pure grapeseed oil, which is light in texture and infused with skin loving ingredients such as vitamins A and E that leaves all skin types thoroughly cleansed, instantly hydrated and soft."

The cleansing oil comes in a 125 ml plastic bottle with flip-top lid dispenser. I love the green theme on the packaging. The oil has a fresh slightly herbal scent. Being mostly grapeseed oil, this product is an oil of thin consistency.

To apply, I simply massage a small amount into my skin, adding a little more when cleansing my eye makeup. It is such a light weight oil, yet melts away makeup with ease. Being an emulsifying oil a little water can be added which turns the cleansing oil into a creamy lather, ensuring that the face is sufficiently cleansed.

I use a wet face washer to remove the oil, which is much less effort than removing the thicker oils that I am used to. Although not needed, I do finish with my regular creamy cleanser.

I love that the Simple Hydrating Cleansing Oil gently removes makeup while managing to also nourish the skin. I'm going to have to try skipping the second cleanse, because I really like the way my skin feels after using this cleanser.

Makeup Look Featuring ColourPop Ultra Glossy Lip in Hack

If you read the post on my lipstick collection, you would notice that of all the lip products I own, lip glosses are a minority. I prefer a longer lasting lip product. However, out of curiosity I decided to try the ColourPop Ultra Glossy Lip.

Today I will be showing you the shade Hack, which is from the Amanda Steele collaboration.

The lip gloss come in a typical gloss tube complete with doe foot applicator. The formula is really nice to wear on the lips. It's not sticky or tacky, but feels smooth and moisturising. Wear time is fairly average, but that was to be expected.

The shade of Hack is a sheer peachy nude with golden shimmer. It's such a lovely colour that I find quite flattering on the lips..

For a product that I don't often reach for, I really like the ColourPop Ultra Glossy Lips

Pan That Palette Update #3

I feel like I have been trying to finish this palette forever, probably because it has been that long, lol. I wouldn't say I am disheartened about still trying to be done with the 88 Warm palette, but it would be nice to play with some other eye shadows that have no other purpose for months now but to sit collecting dust. It actually does sound like I'm disheartened, doesn't it? lol

Ok, so last update I had finished 5 eye shadows and had 4 eye shadows that I had hit pan on.

Unfortunately I have only finished 1 eye shadow since June. Although that is disappointing, I have a couple more eye shadows that I am very close to finishing.

I am now left with 32 eye shadows to go. Thankfully, there's still some nice lid shades to choose from, it just takes longer to get through them.

Here's to a better result next update!

Optically Glasses

When Optically Australia approached me to promote their online company, at first I was hesitant to accept. I was very grateful for being considered, but prescription glasses is not a subject that I've ever blogged about. On further consideration, I decided that their service and product might interest some of my Aussie glasses wearing readers.

I am required to wear prescription glasses for reading. Just because they're necessary, it doesn't mean they can't look good, too.

Being able to order glasses online is so convenient. You simply choose a frame of your liking, and send a copy of your prescription (I photographed my prescription on my phone, then sent it in an email).

There are so many designs to choose from, starting from as low as $19 to the prestigious designer glasses. You can even get your hands on prescription sunglasses.

No need to be concerned whether the frame will suit. Optically has cleverly included a function on their website where you can use a photo of yourself and "try" the glasses on. I spent quite some time and had a lot of fun using this function as I browsed through the women's glasses. There are just so many frames to choose from that every taste is catered for. If you still can't decide, there is even an option to trial 4 frames at home. How great is that!

The team at Optically are only too happy to assist, being available to contact by email or phone.

Through much deliberation, I chose the Jorgio Peer, a metal semi-rimmed pair of glasses.

They arrived in less than 2 weeks after measurements had been complete for progressive lenses. I was thrilled when I opened the classy looking burgundy and black soft touch case to reveal my new glasses. They are light-weight yet sturdy and well made. I am completely satisfied, but if I wasn't, Optically have a 100% quality guarantee where you can exchange them for free or get a full refund.
